Useful tourist information
The district of El Alto Deba is the geographical centre of the Basque Country and holds two of the most outstanding monumental towns of Gipuzkoa: Bergara and Oñati. Nearby is the Basilica of Arantzazu, as well as the centre of the Basque cooperative movement, which is located in Arrasate-Mondragón, whose medieval center still conserves many of its original buildings. El Alto Deba has attractive countryside, such as the Natural Park of Aizkorri, the area around the Urkulu Reservoir and Aretxabaleta, as well as local festivals such as Alarde del Moro in Anzuola and the Corpus Christi Procession and the international shepherd dog show in Oñati. As for cuisine, the sweets from Bergara could be a good souvenir of the region.
